Description
“My homeland: were I kept from it by Paradise itself” opens a line Ahmad Shawqi (1868–1932) wrote in exile in al-Andalus, and ends: “my soul would pull me back to it, even in Paradise.” For anyone living far from home, or a family that keeps its homeland on the wall.
It is written in Kufic, the oldest of the Arabic scripts, upright and geometric, in dark ink over an oil painting of the Nile at dusk with white sails and date palms on the far bank. Printed exactly as shown.
