At MASHQ, every piece begins with a letterform. Here's a quick guide to the three Arabic calligraphy styles behind our designs — and how to choose the one that's right for you.
Kufic — bold and geometric
One of the oldest Arabic scripts, Kufic is angular, structured and architectural. Its clean geometry makes it perfect for modern, graphic pieces — like our personalised name frames.
Thuluth — elegant and flowing
Thuluth is the calligrapher's showpiece: tall verticals, sweeping curves and intricate overlaps. It carries a sense of grandeur, which is why we use it for our statement calligraphy wall art.
Diwani — ornate and decorative
Developed in the Ottoman court, Diwani is cursive, looped and richly decorative. It lends jewel-like detail to smaller pieces such as our letter jars and engraved lids.
How to choose
Pick Kufic for a contemporary look, Thuluth for timeless elegance, or Diwani for ornate detail. However you choose, many MASHQ pieces can be personalised with your name or chosen word.
