Ramadan iftar set on a stitched leather tray with a dates box and mabkhara, by MASHQ

Iftar is as much about the table as it is about the meal — the moment the fast breaks tends to happen around a spread that's been thought about in advance. A few pieces make the difference between a table that's simply set and one that feels intentional.

Start With Dates

Every iftar begins with dates, so give them a place that matches the moment: an acrylic box with «رمضان كريم» in Kufic on the lid sits naturally at the centre of the table and doubles as a serving piece guests remember.

Let the Mabkhara Set the Mood

A censer burning bakhoor before guests arrive does more for the atmosphere of an iftar than almost anything else on the table. Place it near the entrance to greet guests as they arrive, or let it work quietly in the majlis while the table is being set.

Build the Table in Layers

A leather tray as a base, a calligraphy box for dates, smaller dishes for dried fruits and nuts around it — layering pieces of varying heights and materials gives a table visual depth without it looking overcrowded.

Don't Forget the Majlis

Guests will move to the majlis before and after the meal, so it deserves its own attention: a Mashrabiya-inspired panel on a side table, or a Masjid-style dome piece with the month's greeting worked into the design, sets the tone for the evening as much as the table itself.

Keep It Consistent

Pick one material finish — clear acrylic, black, or gold — and carry it across the pieces you use. A table that mixes too many finishes reads as cluttered rather than considered.
