Kufi calligraphy. Kufi is the oldest of the great scripts — the angular hand of the first Qurans and of the carved inscriptions on Fatimid Cairo. It is built from straight lines and measured curves, which is why it reads as architecture as much as writing, and why designers reach for it when a wall wants geometry rather than flourish.
